Marcel “Marc” Wiedmaier is the Vice President of Business Development responsible for Federal and State new client development, strategic planning, educational, advocacy and grass roots mobilization for The Leonard Group, LLP, an “Inside the Beltway” Washington DC based Government Contracts and Lobbying Firm. He has over 30-years of combined domestic and international business development, sales and marketing experience in the Aerospace and Defense, Telecommunications and Government Affairs industries.
Marc worked directly with the late Jerris Leonard, Esq., Mr. Leonard was the Chairman and Founder of the Leonard Group, LLP, Former Assistant Attorney General appointed by President Richard M. Nixon, confirmed by the United States Senate, Administrator of the Law Enforcement Administration and Former Senior Partner at Foley and Lardner, LLP, a well known K Street law firm and one of the largest law firms in the country.
Through Marc’s work with various governmental affairs clients of The Leonard Group, LLP, and with the K Street law firm of Foley & Lardner, LLP, he has developed access to key decision makers within The White House, Congress and various Federal Agencies.
Specifically, he has experience working the House and Senate Armed Services, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and Judiciary Committees. He has attended and monitored numerous Congressional hearings, mark-ups, floor votes and key political events such as the National Presidential Convention where he actively participated in the Senatorial Trust functions giving him further value-added access to Congressional Leadership and Cabinet Members.
He has teamed with Governmental Affairs Consultants to halt offensive, anti-client legislation in the Senate and House preventing consideration of same on the respective floors. He has campaigned for three United States Senate races in Colorado and New Jersey, Gubernatorial race in Virginia and was instrumental in facilitating the U.S. Senate Majority Leader’s visit and tour of our client’s facilities in Denver, Colorado for U.S. Senatorial and Congressional candidates.
General Motors Hughes Electronics and Hughes Aircraft Company currently known as Raytheon selected him for a Corporate Sponsored Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the Graziadio School of Business and Management at Pepperdine University with a concentration in International Business.
He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Business Administration from the Charles H. Smith School of Business and Management at the University of Maryland at College Park.
Successfully completed the requisite 13-courses over a one year period to earn the Professional Lobbying Certificate (PLC) sponsored by the American League of Lobbyist/Association of Government Affairs Professionals.
He is a registered lobbyist, Member of the American League of Lobbyists (ALL), Association of Government Relations Professional (AGRP) and Sons of the American Legion (SAL).
Former member of the Association of the US Army (AUSA), Air Force Association (AFA), Association of Old Crows (AOC), Navy League, Marine Corp League (MCL), Army Aviation Association of America (QUAD-A) and Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association (AFCEA).
Attended and participated at various domestic and international trade events and air-shows to include the Paris, Farnborough and Dubai air shows as well as IDEX in Abu Dhabi and IDEA in Turkey.
Marc has lived and worked in Washington DC for over 30-years, as well as, 15-years in Los Angeles and Denver in addition to his 13-years living internationally in Europe. He has an excellent command of the German and French languages with extensive business travel throughout Europe and the Middle East.
He is also an active outdoorsman in alpine sports an avid snow skier, runner, hiker, and mountain biker. He is a martial arts, track and field and wrestling champion. While living in Europe, Marc was a member of the European Martial Arts Federation where he competed internationally and placed in various tournaments and championships. He also successfully completed and graduated from Austrian and Swiss ski & mountaineer programs.
He is the proud father of Kiefer Wiedmaier, a former student athlete lacrosse player and graduate from Providence College and Chad Wiedmaier, a former four-time All-American student athlete lacrosse player and graduate from Princeton University.
